Richard R. LaReno, a resident of Barrington for over 40 years, died on Thursday, April 8th in Vero Beach, Florida. Mr. LaReno was born on October 26, 1926 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 after graduating from Oconomowoc High School and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He fought for his country in the battles of Okinawa and Iwo Jima. Mr. LaReno moved to Chicago after the war and began his career in industrial and commercial real estate while attending Northwestern University at night. He joined Arthur Rubloff & Co. in the 1950s and eventually became President of their IDEA Division and Executive Vice-President of the company. Mr. LaReno built over 70 industrial buildings during his career and developed several industrial parks, including Schaumburg Industrial Park near the Woodfield shopping mall. Mr. LaReno formed his own company in 1980 Richard R. LaReno & Co., based in Schaumburg, Illinois. He was a member of the National Association of Realtors, the Society of Industrial and Office Realtors, the Executive Club of Chicago, the Mid-Day Club, the Barrington Hills Country Club, the Ocean Reef Club, the Card Sound Gulf Club, the Key Largo Anglers Club and the Orchid Island Golf Club. Mr. LaReno was also a fervent animal lover and an accomplished equestrian, riding with the Fox River Valley Hunt for 25 years. He was an avid fly fisherman and bird hunter, pursuing the wily ruffed grouse with his faithful setters for many years. He was also a skilled skeet shooter, competing and winning in both state and national championships. Mr. LaReno will be missed by his wife of 34 years, Abby Buckley LaReno; his 2 sons, Richard (Marian) and Jeffrey; his stepson John (Deanne) Jaeckel; his daughter Jennifer and 2 stepdaughters Susan Jaeckel and Melissa Ammarell. He was predeceased by his daughter Valerie and his stepdaughter Lindsay (Rick) Hardy. Mr. LaReno is also survived by 11 grandchildren. A funeral service will be held for Mr. LaReno on Saturday, April 17th at 11 a.m. at St. Michael?s Episcopal Church in Barrington, Illinois, where visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington, Illinois. The family suggests in honor of Mr. LaReno's love of animals, in lieu of flowers, donations to the Door County Humane Society, 3475 Park Drive, Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, would be gratefully appreciated.
