Richard Oates

Richard Wayne Oates, 91, of Crystal Lake, passed away February 11, 2016 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Willard, OH on November 21, 1924 to the late Frank and Gertrude (nee Godlove) Oates.
Richard served in the 59th Air Service Command from 1943-1946 as an aerial engineer Sergeant. On April 22, 1950 he married Lorraine Muhr. They were married almost 57 years before her passing in 2007.
He was a renowned scenic artist in Chicago for over 50 years.
Richard will be dearly missed by his loving children, Wayne (Alice), Lynn (David) Zabler, Karen Wrenn, and Kevin (Debra); grandchildren, Tommy, Bethi, Sarah, Stephen (Angie), Lauren, Matthew (Hillary), Justine, Tammy, Ryan, and Addyson; 5 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Charlie Oates and Ella Mae Ohlinger.
Visitation will be Monday, February 15 from 9 am until 11 am at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte 176), Crystal Lake. Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1023 McHenry Ave., Crystal Lake. Entombment will be at St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine.
