Richard Edward O’Brien II, 65, of Barrington, passed away unexpectedly on October 31, 2015. He was born on October 27, 1950 in Panama City Zone, Panama to Richard Edward and Alice Kathryn (nee Lane) O’Brien.
Richard was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1973 to 1978. He was a high school teacher for District 214 for 28 years; he also volunteered at Sunny Hill Elementary School in Carpentersville. Richard was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the Blackhawks and Cubs. He also loved coaching soccer, cricket and bowling. Richard was known for his patriotism, strong intellect and artistic abilities.
Richard will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 45 years, Mary Lou, with whom he was united in marriage on April 4, 1970 in Vine Grove, KY. In addition to his wife, Richard is survived by his children, Heather (Greg) Sherwin of Vernon Hills; Matthew (Mindy) O’Brien of Rolling Meadows; grandchildren, Mya, Emerie and Mason O’Brien, Carter and Dylan Sherwin; siblings, Cheryl O’Brien, Bridgette Pregliasco and John O’Brien. Many other loving nieces and nephews also survive.
Richard was preceded in death by his son, Richard III (Little Richard), and his parents.
Visitation will be Thursday, November 5, from 3 PM until 9 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd) Barrington, IL 60010. Visitation will continue from 9 AM until the funeral mass at 10 AM, Friday, at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St. (corner of Franklin and Ela Streets) Barrington, IL 60010. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
