Richard Charles Ross of Barrington, IL passed away on April 27, 2018, after a brief illness. His loving wife Siggi was at his side. Richard was 70 years old.
Richard was President of Fidential, Inc. An Alum of Wesleyan University and Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management, he started his career after serving in the Marine Corps Reserve as a Naval Intelligence Public Information Officer. After being honorably discharged, Richard joined United Press International serving as Midwestern Regional Executive in Chicago. Following his time at UPI, he served as Corporate Strategic Planner and Business Development Manager at Sears Holdings and as Senior Strategic Planner for IBM and AT&T. During his tenure at IBM, he was proud to act as lead planner for “eBusiness.” Richard was also an investor in local radio stations and an officer of Mountain Broadcasting Corp.
Richard loved people, learning, and living life. A curious and intrepid world traveler, his many journeys included explorations of China, Ireland, and Mexico, and exploring places dear to his heart, such as his wife’s home in Germany and his own ancestral homeland, Scotland. Back at home, he loved camping, hiking, and canoeing. The Adirondacks were a special place for him and his family. Many summers passed at Camp Wakonda making s’mores with his parents and sisters, and later his children, nieces, and nephew. As an avid nature enthusiast, Richard enjoyed bird watching. Music was another passion, whether at church, at a concert, or with his family.
A native of Latham, NY, Richard is survived by Siggi (Sigrid Reusse), his beloved wife of 18 years; his children Rob (Josiane Horak) and Anne (David Platt); and sisters Shirley Blabey (Eugene) and Kathie Schuster (Barry). He is preceded in death by Caroline, beloved wife, and mother of his children; and by his parents, Charles & Mildred Ross.
