Richard (Dick) Emery Yost, 94, of Lake in the Hills, Illinois, passed into eternal life on March 22, 2025. Born December 4, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois to Emery and Marion Yost. Dick lived a life defined by service, love of his family, love of country, and an unshakeable faith. He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 70 years, Eileen Lucille (Heineman) Yost.
Known as Sergeant Yost, Dick served nine years in the National Guard before dedicating 28 years to the Mount Prospect Police Department. He excelled as a detective and counselor to students at Prospect High School. Beyond his public service, he always had side ventures, particularly his time as a used car broker stands out where his gift of authentically connecting with people forged lasting bonds with every interaction and deal. Yet the cornerstone of his life came in 1964 when he accepted Jesus as Lord. This decision ignited a profound legacy of faith that became his greatest gift to his friends and family. Dick was not quiet about his faith; he shared it boldly through prayers, teaching Bible studies, and leading youth to the Lord, and even in his final days, lifting his strong tenor voice in hymns of praise. His commitment inspired generations, from his children to his great-grandchildren to walk in faith and find strength through reading scripture.
Dick loved golf, fishing, boating, riding wave-runners and scooters while spending time with his family in Door County, Wisconsin.
Richard is survived by his children, Cathy (Ron) Bouthillette, David (Kim) Yost, Christi Thompson, and Brian (Lori) Yost; grandchildren Erich (Joanne) Bouthillette, Rachel (Rick) Drew, Joshua (Tiffany) Yost, Samuel (Aleksandra) Yost, Seth (Megan) Yost, Michelle (Doug) Bober, Dana (Kyle) Perino, Hannah (Alexander) Stephenson; and he delighted in his 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and siblings Tom, Harry, Jim, Patricia Spriegel, and Muriel Taylor, and grandson Daniel Jacob Yost.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, May 3, 2025, with visitation at 1pm and a service at 2pm to follow at Living Grace Community Church, 1500 Silver Lake Road, Cary Illinois 60013.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Student Ministries; Living Grace Community Church, where Dick had a passion for the youth to come to know Christ.
