Richard "Rich" Anthony Tjardes

Richard Anthony Tjardes, known to his loved ones as Rich, passed away on August 22, 2023, at the age of 91 in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Born on September 23, 1931. in Chicago, Illinois, Rich led a remarkable life filled with hard work and a passion for mechanics.

Rich was a strong-spirited individual who had a knack for all things mechanical. He found solace and joy in building and tinkering in his garage, becoming a self-taught expert in automotive repair and home maintenance. His motto, "we can fix anything but a broken heart," truly reflected his determination and problem-solving nature.

Throughout his career, Rich drove semi trucks, and he often regaled his loved ones with captivating stories of his routes and the challenges he faced on the road. Aside from his main profession, Rich also took on various side jobs to ensure that his wife, Pauline, and their children could enjoy a good life.

In his youth, Rich cherished the times he spent fishing with his dad and uncles. Now, we hope that he has finally reunited with them in a peaceful place, where they can cast their lines together once more.

Rich is survived by his son, Richard J. Tjardes, his daughter, Laurie (Gary) Klawans, and his siblings - Arlene (Charles) Smolarek, Wilbert Tjardes, and Linda (Lloyd) Laufer. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Rich's dedication, hard work, and love for his family will forever be remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Visitation will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 930am until the time of service at 11am at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory 419 E Terra Cotta Avenue, Crystal Lake, Illinois. Burial will follow at Windridge Memorial Park and Nature Sanctuary in Cary, Illinois.
