Rick was born April 27, 1949 in Upland, Pa to Frederick R. Martz Sr. and Catherine Nora (Creilly) Martz. He passed away October 12, 2016 at M.S. Hershey Medical Center.

Rick served in the U.S. Army with NAC-Secret Clearance with the government. He graduated from St. James High School, attended Temple University and received an Associate in Arts degree from Community College of Delaware County and completed his certification in the Art of Parenting for Group Home Foster Parents.

Rick appreciated life with all its adventures and misfortunes. He faced his greatest challenges with his health. His illnesses may have broken his body, but never his spirit! He lived his life with great compassion, empathy, and laughter. Rick was a “Bright Light” in the ways he lived the gospel, and Christ’s teaching. “It’s better to give than to receive”. He was a cherished brother and much-loved uncle. Rick had great interest in social welfare, with a focus on the “Big Brother” program. Throughout his life, he reached out to the underserved and neglected youth in his area, instructing them in swimming, tennis, and basketball. He also befriended the widow and orphaned. An avid tennis player, Rick received lessons from Ian Crookenden, formerly #1 player in New Zealand in 1962. Rick won many local single and doubles tournaments. He was fond of music, dancing, dogs, and learning about other cultures. His greatest passion was biblical comparisons and research. Rick worked for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, Catholic Social Services Division, the Bancroft School for the Multiple Handicapped, and received many commendations for his community services and volunteer work. He also was a self-employed painting contractor, specializing in unique and artistic faux finishes.

Surviving are his sister; Kathleen (Michael) Martz-Belinski of Barrington, IL; two nieces, Sharon (Bill) Lackie, and Heather Lane; and two nephews, Theo Lane and Ryan Lackie.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Barbara Lane; and nephew, Joseph-Michael Betlinski.

His life’s focus was service to others, his life’s passion was knowing God and making Him known.

For your Faithful, O Lord, Life is changed, not taken away. Your gentle touch remains upon the hearts of those who loved you best.
