Rita A. Schimick, 90, of Crystal Lake, formerly of Chicago, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2017. She was born September 24, 1926, in Chicago, to Patrick J. and Mary (nee White) Flynn.
Rita was a devoted daughter, wife, sister, aunt and friend. She was a caregiver at heart with a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin. Rita was a loving example of her Catholic faith and a role model to her nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, and great-great nieces & nephews. Her Irish wit and wisdom always shone through in times of joy and at times of adversity.
Rita always found it fun to remind her sister, Peggy, she was the younger of the two, even if by just a year-and-a-half. She loved Uno and Bingo and enjoyed playing with friends and family. Her favorite snacks were “Tea and a Bun” and “Catholic Long Johns.”
Rita is survived by her nieces, Maureen (the late Jack) Kenney, Carol (David) Toofan, Pat Luehrs, Susan (Gene) Koos, Lynn (Bert) Luehrs, Mary Masel, Jyll (Michael) Boudreau, Joan (fiancé, Matt) Luehrs, Jean (Joe) Whetsel, and Diane (John) Wujciga; nephews, Thomas (Heather) Luehrs, Joe (Nancy) Luehrs, Steve (Jeanie) Luehrs, and Jackie (Philis) Flynn; many great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, February 26, from 2:00 pm until the time of a prayer service at 4:00 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave. (Rte. 176), Crystal Lake. Visitation will continue on Monday morning at the funeral home from 9:00 am until the time of procession to mass at 10:00 am at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 451 W Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake 60014. Burial will be at Holy Sepulchre Catholic Cemetery in Alsip.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her church, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church (see address above).
