Robert Lewis Allen, born on June 16, 1923 in Canandaigua New York, passed away on January 20, 2014 in Barrington, IL.
Robert served in the South Pacific in World War II as a B-24 Bombardier and later serviced in the Air Force Reserve until he retired in 1985 at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. After the war, Robert attended college at the University of North Dakota, and received a degree in electrical engineering. His first jobs after graduating were working on a rural electrification crew in Kentucky and Montana and being an engineering consultant. After his first son was born, Robert went to work for Westinghouse Electric as a field engineer and in 1955 he was transferred to the Westinghouse Chicago regional office. He and his young family settled in Rolling Meadows, IL where they resided for 55 years. He retired at the age of 62 and spent the majority of his retirement years travelling around the world with his wife, Georgia. As a young man, his service in World War II changed his life by allowing him to meet the love of his life when he was stationed in North Dakota, receive his college degree through the GI Bill, and live a life he never imagined as a boy growing up during the Great Depression.
Robert is survived by his wife Georgia Lou Allen of 70 years; his sons, Robert C. (Ginna) Allen, and Richard L. (Lorna) Allen; four grandchildren, Kristen, Cortney (Jeff), Jim, and Jackie Allen; and his two sisters, Mary Giralico and Betty Crossett.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Anna Allen, and his two brothers, Francis and Don Allen.
