Robert Arbuthnot

Robert R. Arbuthnot, 72, of Inverness passed away April 6, 2017 at JourneyCare in Barrington. He was born in Oak Park on October 14, 1944.

Bob was raised in Glenview and graduated from Glenbrook North in 1962. He subsequently attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He went to work initially for Rand McNally and then on to Kingsport Press. He met Mary Houlihan during the summer of 1968 and they were married in 1972. Bob joined Arbuthnot Construction in 1970 and continued to contribute to the family business until his retirement.

Bob had many and varied interests, ranging from a talent in photography to a life-long interest in model trains. He enjoyed writing, was an excellent bowler, loved to play golf, and for many years tended to the grounds of his home meticulously. He will be forever known as being gracious, generous, repartee ready, a consummate host. He thrived on celebrating with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary; mother, Dorothy (late Malcolm) Arbuthnot; brother-in-law, David (late Donna Arbuthnot) Wilbert; sister-in-law, Pat (Art) Kern; niece, Marie Kern; and nephew, James (Leslie) Kern.

Visitation will be Monday, April 10th, from 10 am until the time of a funeral service at 11:30 am at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.) Barrington.
