Robert Block

The Memorial Service for Robert H. Block,91, of Barrington will be held at 7pm, Friday, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington. The family will be receiving friends from 4pm until the time of service. Burial will be private in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.

Born May 24, 1921 in Chicago, IL, the son of Robert H. Block and Ethel (nee Sperling) Jurs, passed away peacefully January 7, 2013 at Good Shepherd Hospital.

Bob was a warehouse manager for Boise Cascade in Itasca for 40 years. He served as a volunteer Fireman & Paramedic on the Barrington Fire Dept. for 22 years. 

He served in the Army during WWII. He was a member and past commander of Barrington VFW Post 7706, along with being a member of the Barrington American Legion Post 158. Bob enjoyed gardening, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his wife Lillian (nee Van Den Berg); children, Barbara Block of Fox River Grove, Kathy (Roy) Speer of Barrington; and a granddaughter, Amy Block.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence (Elynor) and Russell Block.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Barrington Fire Dept., 400 N Northwest Hwy, Barrington, IL 60010

 

Visitation & Memorial Service: Friday, January 11, 4pm until the 7pm service, Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington
