The Memorial Service for Robert “Bob” Brandt,87, of Barrington Hills since 1968, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.), Barrington. Deacon Donald Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington. A visitation will be Monday from 3-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Born August 20, 1925 in Evanston, IL, Robert passed away peacefully November 28, 2012 at his home.
Bob enlisted in the U.S. Navy following high school, where he served as a Naval Photographer during WW II. After the war he served for many years in the Naval Reserves, where he was instrumental in the acquisition, promotion and transportation of the U-505 German Submarine to the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.
He enjoyed people and life, with many hobbies and passions, including photography, flying, boating, trains, farming, veteran’s organizations and his American Legion Post. Bob was the Commander and active member of Barrington American Legion Post 158, where he was active with the golf outings, American Legion baseball tournaments and high school scholarships. Bob owned and operated his photography business for 56 years.
Robert is survived by his loving wife, Mary (nee Schaefer); children, Bob (Susan) Brandt, Susan (Bob) Brandt-Olsen, Margaret (Paul) Valade, Tom and Bill Brandt; and grandchildren Mallory and Emily Valade.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Hartman.
