Robert Marvin Maronde, Sr.

Robert M. Maronde, Sr, 92 of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2017 in McHenry. He was born on March 5, 1925 to George and Marie Maronde in Chicago. After his parents’ divorce, Marie remarried Peter Kolling, who then raised Bob and his sisters. He was the loving husband of the late Shirley (nee Gatz) for 60 years; and was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, and a grandson Tyler Joseph Stevenson. He was the loving father of 5; Kathy (Lyn) Miller, Bob, Jim (Ellie) Maronde, Donna (Dr. Rick) McCoy, and Beckie (Joe) Stevenson. He was the grandfather of 18; great-grandfather of 19. He was a graduate of Lane Tech HS in Chicago, and then served in the U.S. Marine Corps beginning in 1943 until his honorable discharge. As a veteran who served in combat in the Pacific Theatre, he was very proud of serving his country. “Once a Marine, Always a Marine” was his motto. He was an avid bowler, liked to golf, loved to fish with his grandchildren, served as a Boy Scout Troop Leader, and was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Visitation for Robert will be held on Friday, December 29, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of his service at 11:00 a.m., at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. Entombment will follow at Windridge Memorial Park, Cary.
