Robert "Bob" Soule, 84, a long-time resident of Barrington, passed away on July 1, 2015 at the Pepper Family Hospice Center (JourneyCare). Born on January 25, 1931 in West Branch, Iowa, he grew up in rural Kendall County and Aurora, Illinois and graduated from West Aurora High School.
As a young boy he set pins in the local bowling alley and became a skilled bowler, participating in many competitive leagues over the course of his lifetime. Bob was an accomplished pitcher in the men's fast pitch softball league in Aurora. An avid golfer and fisherman, he enjoyed fishing in Canada.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and returned to complete his undergraduate and Masters degrees in education at Northern Illinois University. From 1959 to 1986, he taught in the Business Department at Barrington High School, and served as Department Chair until his retirement. Through the years, he was a strong supporter of Barrington High School athletics and the Chicago Cubs.
Bob managed the Barrington Area Educators Credit Union for 30+ years, and was responsible for its growth. He was a constant source of support, kindness and wisdom to his colleagues and their families, who fondly referred to him as "Friendly Bob." From 1962 to 2012, he served as the secretary and treasurer of the Barrington Park District, commemorated by dedication of the Robert Soule Amphitheater at the District's Citizens Park. Bob had also been a member of St. Anne’s Catholic Community since 1989.
He is survived by his dear wife of 26 years, Shirley Juip; his daughters Ginger (Rob) Weincek, Julie Worley, and Jennifer Soule (Kelly Lambert); and his grandchildren, Danae Reese, David Worley, and Nadine Worley. He is also survived by his sisters, Bette DelMonte and Wilma Ardelean (Leon) and his brother, Larry Soule.
Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Soule, his mother, Marguerite Soule, his step father William H. Soule, and his father, Edward M. Garlock.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 7 from 4 to 8 pm, at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W Main Street (Lake-Cook Rd), Barrington.
Visitation will continue on Wednesday morning from 10 am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11 am at St. Anne Catholic Church, 120 Ela St (not Ela Rd), Barrington. Burial will be held privately at Evergreen Cemetery.
