Robert James Zimmer

November 30, 1932 — May 20, 2020

Davenport, Barrington

With sorrow, we announce the passing of Robert James Zimmer. He passed away peacefully following a short illness.  He rejoins his loved ones in Heaven: his parents, John and Clara Zimmer; his siblings: Virginia, Raymond, and Dorothy Zimmer; and his infant son, James Zimmer. Robert is survived by his loving family: his wife of 59 years, Janice; his children, Elizabeth (William) Kinsella, Mary E. Zimmer, and Robert E. (Lisa) Zimmer; his grandchildren, Katheen and William Kinsella, Aren and Teaghan Overgaard; and sister, Marilyn DeLord.
Robert was born on November 30, 1932 in Chicago.  After graduating from St. George High School, he learned the skill of carpet installation and soon became a union Journeyman.  After years of hard work and saving, and with the support of his wife Janice, he was able to open his own flooring business.  He was known for his strong work ethic, tenacity, and intelligence, and became a very successful entrepeneur and businessman.

Robert was a kind, humble, and gentle soul who loved spending time with his family.  He had a great (sometimes dry) sense of humor, often with a joke on his lips. He was always there to brighten the lives of others, and was greatly loved in return.

Robert's family was the cornerstone of his life.  He was unfailingly devoted to the welfare and support of his family.  He shared with his wife a close and caring relationship, based on love for one another.  He provided the support and example necessary for his children to strive towards their highest potential, and showed them and his grandchildren great love.
Robert will be greatly missed, but never forgotten by the many whose life he blessed.

A lifelong Catholic, Robert went to sleep in the certainty of resurrection; may he experience the eternal joy of Heaven.

Mass of Catholic Funeral and Burial will be held privately.
