Roger Dean Wenthold

Roger Dean Wenthold, of Barrington, passed away surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, December 3, 2017 at the age of 70.

He was born July 5, 1947 in Decorah, Iowa to the late Hubert and Angeline (nee Croatt) Wenthold.
On July 11, 1970, Roger was united in marriage to Patricia Bomher at St. Mary’s Church in Mokena, IL.

Roger was born and raised on dairy farm outside Decorah, IA.  Following his high school graduation, Roger moved to Chicago to attend Devry Technical Institute.  Roger and Pat met as college students in 1967 while working at LaSalle Bank in Chicago.  After graduation from Devry, Roger joined Western Electric in Rolling Meadows as an Electrical Engineering Associate while pursuing additional coursework at IIT.  Roger and Pat moved to Barrington in 1974 where they raised their family.  Roger later transferred to AT&T in Chicago from where he took an early retirement after 23 years of service.  While at Western Electric, Roger served as Union President of Local 81, International Federation of Professional and Technical Engineers for 10 years.
In early retirement, Roger cared for his aging parents and other home matters while Pat pursued her career at Harper College.  Roger also enjoyed short stints working as a Real Estate Agent and a Locksmith during this time.  In later years, Roger and Pat purchased the remaining four acres of a Barrington Homestead complete with Barn and Chicken Coop.  Roger, both an expert handyman and avid gardener, enjoyed restoring the property and gardening organically using antique tractors and implements.
Roger also loved woodworking, model trains, seeing his grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.

In addition to his loving wife, Pat, he is survived by his daughters, Rachael (Stephen) Nimmo of Bethesda, MD and Nora (Steven) Jacob of Geneva, IL; his grandchildren, George and Elizabeth Nimmo and Henry Jacob; his sisters, Luann Wenthold and Norma (Daniel Koehn) Wenzel; brothers-in-law, John (Patricia) Bomher and Joseph (Rita) Bomher; sister-in-law, Gayle (Richard) Frisco; and his many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Amanda Katherine; parents, Hubert and Angeline Wenthold; brother, Loren Wenthold; and brother-in-law, Richard Wenzel.

The visitation will be held Thursday, December 7, from 4-9 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 149 W Main St. (Lake-Cook Rd.) Barrington. The funeral service will be held the following day, Friday, December 8, at 11 a.m. with visiting beginning at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roger’s memory to The Cancer Institute of America; The Epilepsy Foundation; PAWS Chicago; or a personal favorite.
