Roland Marc Gigon

April 21, 1936 — February 6, 2022

Davenport Crystal Lake

Roland Marc Gigon lost a valiant battle with double-hit lymphoma on February 6, 2022. He was born in Moutier, Switzerland on April 21, 1936. Roland's joie de vivre was a joy to behold. He lived spiritedly and reveled in the thrill of each new experience, from the simplest pleasures to the grandest aspirations.

After serving in the Swiss Army, Roland advanced to the position of Qualified Service Technician at Tornos, a leading manufacturer of high precision turning solutions. He embarked on the adventure of a lifetime when Tornos sent him to the United States in 1961 and he met his former wife, Claire. Just 10 years later at the age of 35, Roland founded Accumation, Inc. and began manufacturing the highest quality precision Swiss screw machine parts with exceptional accuracy. For 51 years, he was loved and respected by his employees and customers as he built Accumation into a thriving business that is a testament to his passionate pursuit of precision.

A true gentleman and a connoisseur of fine food and wine, Roland took great delight in uniting family and friends around the dining table. He often remarked, "A day without wine is like a day without sunshine." And he radiated an abundance of his own sunshine, warmth, and good humor. Perhaps the only thing brighter than Roland's smile was the kindness and generosity overflowing from his gentle heart.

Roland exuded charm, refinement, quiet confidence, and a Champagne-like effervescence, yet he was an incredibly humble, introspective man.

A remarkable downhill skier, exceptional tennis player, aficionado of classical music, avid traveler, nature lover, fisherman, and master of the charcoal grill, Roland introduced his three daughters to his favorite pastimes during their youth, and they have joyfully embraced their father's passions throughout his lifetime. "The girls," as he affectionately called them, are especially grateful that they have inherited his joy for life, resilience, and unbreakable spirit.

Roland will be deeply missed by his loving daughters, Pascale Gigon, Michelle Gigon, and Claire Marie Gigon; his former wife, Claire E. Gigon; his best friend Guy (Betty) Chalverat; and numerous cousins in Switzerland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, uncles, aunts, and beloved life partner, Andrée Faellaci.

Visitation will be Friday, February 11, 2022 from 4 PM until 8 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at 10 AM. Burial to follow at Crystal Lake Memorial Park, Crystal Lake.
