Roland H. Reher, of Algoma, Wisconsin and formerly of Sturgeon Bay, WI, Cary and Chicago, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at Algoma Long Term Nursing Center.
He was born May 21, 1930 in Chicago to the late Henry and Erna (nee Knottke) Reher.
Roland served in the Army during the Korean War, stationed in Alaska. He had many careers. He was a painter and decorator; head custodian for school district 26 in Cary; a custodian for both SS. Peter & Paul Church in Cary and St. Peters Church in Chicago; and a bartender at Cary Pub for many years.
In 1984 he moved to Sturgeon Bay and purchased a bar named “The Runway.” He then moved to Algoma and became a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked for various nursing homes in Kewaunee County.
Roland’s hobby was restoring and repairing antique clocks. He especially enjoyed decorating for the Christmas holiday. Additionally, he was very fond of the pets he had throughout his life.
Roland is survived by his son Ronald “Ron” (Reana) Reher of Crystal Lake; grandson, Eric Reher of Deer Park; and sister, Fern Jacobson of Chicago; brother, Eldon Reher of Lake in the Hills.
The memorial visitation will be held Saturday, June 3, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service beginning at 11:30 a.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt. 176) Crystal Lake.
Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Roland’s memory may be made to Lord and Savior Lutheran Church, 9300 Ridgefield Rd., Crystal Lake, IL 60012.
