Ronald D. Nunes, Sr., 84, of Woodstock, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Hospital, in Elgin, following heart surgery. Ronald was born in Jacksonville, Illinois and moved to McHenry County in his early teens. He attended Crystal Lake Central High School and married his high school sweetheart, Bonnie Tessendorf, on April 19, 1952. She preceded him in death last December after a short illness.
Ronald was employed in the trucking industry in McHenry County for his entire life. He was self-employed for many years, owning Nunes Trucking where they hauled sand and gravel; he also assisted his in-laws, Paul and Hazel Tessendorf, on their family farm and did grain hauling for local farmers. He went to work at Terra Cotta Truck Service, located in Crystal Lake, where he was employed as a dispatcher and worked there for many years. In the 1980’s he started TC Transportation Inc, located in Terra Cotta, Illinois, and operated that company with his wife until he retired in 2015.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan Younger (Edward), Cathy Furao (Tony), and Debra Mindham, (Chris); 14 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his niece, Pamela Schleif (Tim Easlick); nephews, Larry and Jeffrey Tessendorf; and his adored Chocolate Labrador, Missie Coca.He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; by his only son, Ronald D. Nunes, Jr; and his mother, Lenora Wright.
Ronald was loved by his family and enjoyed traveling and spending time with his grandchildren on his rural property. He had visited many countries and all US States except Alaska which he was looking forward to visiting after his surgery. He was an avid reader and a lifelong learner and was interested in antique truck and tractor restoration, politics, and read 2-3 newspapers a day.
Visitation will be Monday, July 2, 2018 from 4pm until 8pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave, Route 176 Crystal Lake.
