Roy S. Lumsden

Born September 3, 1930 in Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully August 14, 2014 in Barrington, surrounded by his loving family.

The youngest son of James and Helen Lumsden, both immigrants from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, Roy was a graduate of Niagara Falls High School and earned degrees from Hope College and the University of Michigan. After serving in in the United States Army, Roy enjoyed a long and successful business career, ultimately founding and leading his own executive search firm, The Lumsden Company, until his retirement in 2000. Roy was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. and an active member of the Presbyterian Church of Barrington.

Roy will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his sense of humor, and the joy he took from life.

Roy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Penelope “Penny” Lumsden, children; Jessica Lynn (Peter) Ruppert, Stewart (Amy), and Rick (Angie) Lumsden, grandchildren; Jack, Grace, Pierce, and Ben Ruppert, Drew, Tommy, and Mollie Lumsden, and Nora and Clara Lumsden, and nephew, Jim (Barbara) Lumsden. He was preceded in death by his parents Helen and James Lumsden, and his brother George.

Memorial visitation will be 12 PM until 1:45 with a memorial service following at 2 PM, Saturday August 23, at the Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 Brinker Road, Barrington.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Ramaker Scholarship, a scholarship opportunity that Roy & Penny established at Hope College.
