Roy Spencer Rushing,87, of Barrington Hills, passed away peacefully on Dec 24, 2011. He was born in Marion Kentucky on June 17, 1924. Roy is survived by his wife Marylynn J. (“Lynn” nee Fischer) his son, John (Dianna) and his daughter Gaye Lynn (“TJ” - fiancé Al Turner); grandchildren, Christopher (Michelle) Rushing and James (Sarah) Rushing; great-grandchildren, Addison and Dawson Rushing; niece, Jennifer (Chris) Strader; nephews, Richard (Kathy) Rushing, Thomas (Kathy) Rushing; great nieces, nephews and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Lena Rushing; and his brothers, Curtis (Margarete) Rushing, Thomas (Marion) Rushing, Raymond (May) Rushing; and sister Helen Jane Rushing.
Roy came to Chicago in 1941 as a young man of 17. He joined the Chicago Police Department in 1955 and retired in 1968 to open his own business, Ben Franklin Motors in Chicago. The business is still run by the family. Roy felt indebted to all innocent and harmless creatures of God and spent his life loving each and every one of them, especially horses which he bred and raced for many years. He was named Honorable Kentucky Colonel. Roy will be missed by the wild life as well as everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be held from 4-9p.m., Thursday, December 29,2011, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main Street, Barrington IL, 60010.
Funeral Service will be held at 10a.m., Friday, December 30,2011, at the funeral home.
Burial will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington, following the service.
