Roy George Wilkes, 92, longtime resident of Barrington, passed away peacefully from complications of pneumonia on January 7, 2019. He was born on January 26, 1926 in Chicago.
Roy was a proud World War II veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his wounds received in Okinawa, Japan. Roy was a lifetime devout catholic, attending St. George High School in Chicago and St. Mary College in Winona, MN. Roy was founder and president of Wilkes and McLean Ltd., holding the patent for their proprietary hydraulic noise suppressor.
Roy will be deeply missed by his loving, second wife Kathryn of 17 years, children, Connie (Keith) Bishaf, Kathleen Eugene, Diane and Elaine Wilkes; 3 grandchildren; and 2 nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother Bill Wilkes and by his parents.
Visitation will be held, Monday, January 14, 2019, from 9 AM until the 11 AM funeral mass at Saint Anne Catholic Community, 120 Ela St. (Corner of Franklin and Ela Sts.), Barrington, IL. Burial will be private at St. Casimir Cemetery, Chicago.
