Born Sept. 23, 1922 in Chicago, he passed away Oct. 19. 2011 in Elgin.

Russell is survived by his wife Darlene (nee Dahms), daughters Pennee (Charles) Milazzo, Pamela (Randall) Schawel, son Terry (Debbie) Adams, grandchildren, Kimberly, Kristin, Angela, Lisa, Laurel, Michael, Jennifer, David, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Nicholas,and ten great-grandchildren  He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Helen (nee Sokolowski),  sister Geri Sell, and brother Norbert “Duke” Adams.

Russell served in the Air Force from 1943-1947, and was a manager for Illinois Bell for 35 years.  Russ served as Constable in Norwood Park Township for 8 years. He worked for Crystal Lake Park District for 22 years, including park ranger, racquet club, and driving range.

Russ played minor league baseball, a highlight of which was sitting in the locker room with Joe DeMaggio at Comiskey Park.  He played first base on the winning city championship team at Steinmetz High School.

Memorial visitation will be from 10a.m. until the time of the service at 11a.m. Saturday October 22, 2011 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 932 S. McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Prince of Peace, in Russell’s name would be appreciated.
