Barrington, Illinois,Ruth Paula Quayle, nee Tavares, of Lake Barrington, IL, formerly of Belleville, IL passed away on February 12, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Leo Quayle. Loving mother of Wayne Leo (Kathie) Quayle of Klein, TX and Paula Quayle (Jim) Johnson of North Barrington, IL; cherished grandmother of Patrick Quayle of Irving, TX, Lisa Quayle (Brian) Merkl of Adams, TN, and Jeffrey Quayle of Klein, TX. She is also survived by her dear sister, Theodora Matinzi of Carver, MA. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Anna Tavares. Born in the Azores, Ruth?s father immigrated to America with his parents at the age of 2. After serving in World War I, he visited the Azores and met his future bride. They settled in Plymouth, MA where Ruth was born February 17, 1924. Ruth attended elementary and high schools in Plymouth, MA. She graduated from Burdett College, Boston, MA. Toward the end of World War II, Ruth met Leo, a Navy officer, at the wedding of mutual friends. They were married in Plymouth, MA August 4, 1946 and moved to Leo?s home in East St. Louis, IL. Together they built their dream home in Belleville. Ruth exemplified the traditional homemaker who cared and tended for her family. Ruth loved dancing especially to Big Band music. She enjoyed her yard particularly in the Spring when the tulips bloomed followed by the snowball bushes and peonies. She was devoted to her family and took pride in her children?s and grandchildren?s accomplishments. Family friend Reverend Stanley Konieczny will officiate the funeral service at Kassly Mortuary, Fairview Heights, IL on February 19, 2011 at 2:00 PM. Friends may call beginning at 1:30 PM. Ruth will be laid to rest in St. Clair Memorial Park, Fairview Heights, IL. Immediately following the graveside service there will be a Celebration of Life. For those wishing, memorials may be made to Signal Hill Lutheran Church where Ruth and Leo were life long members or the charity of your choice.
