Ruth Dorothy (Varnau) Wetekam

Ruth D. Wetekam, 91, of Crystal Lake, passed away on July 1, 2017.

A long-time resident of Crystal Lake, Ruth was born on April 8, 1926 in Cincinnati, Ohio.  It was there she spent the first 45 years of her life and was married in 1948 to her husband, Harry Wetekam.

They moved to Crystal Lake in 1973 and were devoted members of First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, where Ruth dedicated much time to her love of the church and the Women’s Fellowship.  Ruth worked proudly in the front office of Country Gas Co. for nearly two decades, while also maintaining a lifelong love of gardening, delighting in visiting flower gardens in various locales.  Ruth and Harry also loved to travel with friends on cruise ships, and they counted those voyages together among their highlights before Harry passed away in 2013.  But Ruth took her greatest pride in raising her children and being devoted to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Ruth is survived by her three children, Donald (Sheri) of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, James (Nijjy) of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and Nancy (John) of Crystal Lake; six grandchildren, Noelle, Daniel, Sarah, LeAna, Adam and Andrew; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, by her brother William, and by her parents.

A memorial service will be held at First Congregational Church of Crystal Lake, 461 Pierson Street, Crystal Lake on Thursday, August 10 at 10am.
