Ruth Young

Ruth Lorraine Brandenburg Young,91, of Barrington, passed away on December 13,2011, at her home in Barrington.She was born on June 29,1920, to Johannes and Tannetje Brandenburg in Rochester, NY.Ruth, known as Brandy, served during WWII in the American Red Cross Gray Lady Service. She was devoted to her husband James, whom she married in 1941. Ruth and Jim celebrated 67 years of marriage before his death in 2008. Ruth's parents were born in Holland, and her Dutch heritage remained important to her throughout her life. She loved to knit, cook and entertained with style and gusto, especially at Christmas-time.She is survived by her loving children, Tanya Young (Dr. Michael) McManus of Del Mar, CA, and Timothy James Young of St. James City, FL; grandchildren, Brendan McManus and Madeleine McManus.Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Young, and parents.Memorial service will be held at 2p.m., on Friday, December 16,2011, at the Presbyterian Church of Barrington, 6 South Brinker Road, Barrington Hills, IL 60010.Burial will be held privately at Evergreen Cemetery, Barrington.
