Samuel (Sam) Willits, born 29 July 1924, loving husband of Florence, father of Linda Sandlin, Steven and David, a resident of Barrington, IL since 1961, died unexpectedly on Marco Island, FL, where he had enjoyed many winter seasons.Sam is a University of Michigan graduate, served as a Navy officer during WWII, and co-founded the Lutheran Church of the Atonement.Sam was a creative engineer and inventor with over a hundred patents.He was the founder and CEO of Spartanics, Ltd for over 40 years.Many of the products you use every day, were undoubtedly made using a Spartanics machine.Sam remained full of good ideas, and continued to consult regularly.As you undoubtedly know, Sam was generous, a great optimist, and loved his Lord, family and friends.He will be greatly missed by many.Sam is survived by his wife of 67 years, children, his son-in-law Alan Sandlin, daughter-in-law Judy Willits and three grandchildren, Kelsey, Scott and Mackenzie Willits.Funerals will be in Marco Island, FL and Barrington, IL.In Barrington, visitation will be at Davenport Funeral Home, Sunday, April 15, from 2 to 6 pm. Funeral services will take place Monday, April 16 at 11 a.m. at The Lutheran Church of the Atonement, 909 E Main Street Barrington, IL 60010.In lieu of flowers, Florence requests your kind donations go to the church Sam and she helped found, The Lutheran Church of the Atonement at 909 E Main Street Barrington, IL 60010, 847-381-0243.
