Scott Troeger

May 16, 1953 — December 23, 2016

A celebration of the life of Scott A. Troeger will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017, at Willow Creek Community Church, 67 E Algonquin Road, South Barrington, in the Lakeside auditorium. Visitation will be at 9 am; the service begins at 10 am. A reception at the church will follow. The burial will be private.

Scott was born May 16, 1953, in Milwaukee, WI to Raymond and Virginia (nee Tiedjens) Troeger. After a two-year battle with cancer, he passed peacefully at home on December 23, 2016.

Scott was a founding member of Willow Creek Community Church when it was formed in 1975. He joined the church staff 35 years ago, and most recently served as Director of Campus Development. He has led the process and design teams for numerous campus expansions such as the main auditorium, the Care Center and the Special Friends ministry. His life has always been about serving people, loving God, and building the church. He valued relationships with people of all ages and from all walks of life. He was known as a man of character and integrity, who was passionate about purpose, process and people. In addition to his work at Willow, he loved to volunteer his time at Camp Paradise, located in the wilderness of Michigan's Upper Peninsula.

He was truly grateful for the blessings that God brought into his life. He was happy with little, and enjoyed water, boating, water skiing, travel and spending time with friends and family accompanied by good food, wine and conversation.

He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Janice Troeger; his brother, Steven R. Troeger; and his nephews, Andrew and Grant Troeger. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial donations may be made to either the Willow Creek Association (https://give.willowcreek.com/index.asp) or Camp Paradise (http://www.willowcreek.org/en/connect/ministries/camp-paradise
