Sharla Kinsey, 51, of Barrington passed away peacefully on April 12, 2022. She was born on February 11, 1971 in Muncie, IN to Edwin Shipley who preceded her in death and Vicki (Galbreth) Shipley. She is survived by her husband of 27 years, Mark Kinsey; children Lucas, Andrew and Kathryn Kinsey; and brother Scott (Amy) Shipley and sister Staci (Ryan) Knigga.
Sharla graduated from Ball State University in 1993 with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting. She joined Alpha Omicron Pi sorority where she held the office of treasurer and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. After graduation, Sharla joined Larry E. Nunn and Associates and earned her CPA certificate. Mark and Sharla married in 1994 and lived in the Indianapolis area for 6 years.
During that time Sharla transitioned into financial analysis work with Macmillan Computer Publishing.
In 1999, Sharla and Mark moved to the Northwest Chicago suburbs. Sharla was a Financial Manager at ACNielsen for 4 years and then turned her focus to her real passion, motherhood. Sharla brought her experience and natural inclinations to volunteer work that surrounded her children’s lives. She served as the treasurer on the Grove School PTO, and various leadership roles on Grove Carnival. While at the Grove PTO, Sharla formed great friendships that grew from monthly lunches, to book clubs and ultimately shared vacations. Sharla served on the board for Barrington Newcomers and Neighbors Organization. Sharla was a constant presence supporting all her kids activities from sports to Bataille dance.
As the kids grew and became more independent, Sharla found enjoyment as a substitute teacher for 7 years. Sharla was the social and activities director for the Kinsey family. She shared many evenings at a Chicago Theatre with her friends and family. Her passion for travel led to national parks, historical sights, foreign countries, and stops at the occasional beach along the way.
All are welcome to come celebrate Sharla’s life on Monday, April 18, 2022 between 12 and 4 PM with a service starting at 4 PM at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 941 S. Old Rand Rd., Lake Zurich, IL 60047. Interment will be private.
