Sharon Millicent (nee’ Wagemann) Caithamer, of Port Barrington, Illinois, passed away on March 7, 2020 at home under the loving care of her family, after a five year battle with illness. Sharon was born September 13, 1943 as the youngest of five children to the late Henry J. and Frieda (née Lindenberg) Wagemann. Sharon went to St. Procopius School where she took the confirmation name of Barbara. Sharon met her future husband, Donald E. Caithamer, who had just returned home from the army, on the steps of the corner candy store where she lived in Chicago in 1959. They married in the fall of 1960. The following year, Sharon became a mother to the first of her five children. Her family grew quickly with the birth of her twin boys in 1963, followed by another son in 1969, and another daughter in 1971. Sharon had a love for life and all living things. She greeted every day with a smile, and was always forgiving and compassionate. She was known for reaching out to strangers and any living thing in need. Over the years, she rescued and took in many animals having saved everything from dogs and frogs to ducks and bunnies to raccoons and opossums, and everything in between. She believed in being active in her community and was an advocate for many causes. She instilled these values and shared her heart of gold with her family and friends. She always loved to dance and sing whether doing chores, working, raising her children, or playing with her grandbabies. She had a strong, hands-on work ethic - be it on the assembly line or in her garden or working on her home - yet she still had the gentlest, loving touch till the very end.
Sharon is survived by her husband, Donald E. Caithamer, and her two daughters and three sons: Shareen (Joseph) Goodroad, Donald G. Caithamer, Douglas H. Caithamer, Daniel E. Caithamer, and Celine H. Caithamer. Sharon is also survived by her five grandchildren: Alexandria Jade “AJ” Goodroad, Destiny Marie Asella Caithamer, Jared Thomas Goodroad, Desiree’ Shakara Caithamer, and Carly Christine Caithamer, along with many, many nieces and nephews.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Shirley Wagemann and Henrietta (née Wagemann) Velazquez, and her brothers Donald Wagemann and George (Albina) Wagemann, and by her brother-in-law Margarito Velazquez, nephew Keith Wagemann, and great-nephew Jay Velazquez, Jr.
