Sharon Schlough

December 9, 1946 — October 11, 2014

Sharon Lee Schlough, age 67, died at University of Chicago Hospital on October 11, 2014. She was surrounded by her family and is now resting peacefully in the arms of her Lord.

Born to Wilma (nee Mallicoat) and Russell Boyd on December 9, 1946 in New Castle, PA, Sharon graduated from New Castle High School. She left home at age 18 to begin her travel adventures. In 1968 she attended Western Airlines Flight Attendant Training (back then, it was called stewardess training) and later lived in San Francisco where she met her surviving husband of 38 years, retired Capt. James E. Schlough. Sharon lived in Crystal Lake since 1980 and stayed at home full-time after becoming a mother to daughters Jamie, Carrie and son, Gregory. She devoted her life to the selfless love and care of her family and friends; she will be long remembered as the “life of every party” and the “hostess with the mostest.”

Sharon made every gathering special, every party more joyous, every event momentous. She lived for others and found great pleasure in serving people around her. Some of her favorite activities were playing tennis with her friends at The Racket Club, Bunco, cheering Team World Vision marathoners, board games, visiting local nursing homes with her therapy companion dog, Winston, and traveling with her husband, children, grandsons and friends. A few of her favorite travel destinations were the Bahamas, Paris and downtown Chicago. Giving gifts was an art form of hers; if she knew you liked something, she had it gorgeously wrapped for your enjoyment the next time you saw her.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Jim; her children, Jamie (Ted) Kemen, Carrie and Gregory; and grandsons, Thomas and Trevor. She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Sandra Allain; and granddaughter, Anna Louise Kemen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Leukemia Lymphoma Society or Team World Vision (teamworldvision.org/Sharon). A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, October 17, at First United Methodist Church, 236 W. Crystal Lake Ave. (at the corner of Dole Ave.), Crystal Lake, IL 60014, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. with a Celebration Service beginning at 4:00 p.m.
