Silas Wilson

June 3, 1931 — April 10, 2018

Silas “Si” Norman Wilson, 87 of Barrington Hills, IL died peacefully on Tuesday April 10, 2018 at Alexian Brothers Hospice Residence.  He was born in Modesto, California, June 3, 1931 son of Roni and Silas Wilson.

Si grew up in California where he graduated from Modesto high school and San Jose State University with a degree in Accounting and later earned his CPA.  He served in the Air Force during the Korean war and was stationed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he met Milly, his wife of 41 years whom he married in November 1953. Si and Milly are survived by four wonderful children, Valerie, Melinda, Andrew and Benjamin.

Si enjoyed spending many occasions hosting extended family events with Milly where their home in Barrington was the gathering place for incredible Thanksgiving feasts.  As the patriarch he always instilled a sense of pride and devotion to his family and would always provide a calm and peaceful presence. Si’s proudest and happiest moments where often documented in family photos extending his arms to God in his “Victory” pose thankful for all the blessing bestowed upon himself and family.

Although Si was a man of few words and had a dry sense of humor, his lifelong profession in accounting fostered his love to read tax publications for enjoyment.   He used his accounting talents to assist his son in purchasing a successful business and he also was self-employed purchasing his own accounting practice to help others.  Si was the Vice President of Times Mirror corporation in Chicago for 14 years.

In his leisure time, Si enjoyed woodworking, gardening and time outdoors at the long-time family home on Old Dundee Road in Barrington.  In 2016, Si moved to Friendship Village in Schaumburg, Il where he enjoyed meeting new friends. He loved going on family vacations and visiting his sons and daughters and grandchildren for family get togethers.

A celebration of his life was held on April 14, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Inverness and he was buried next to his wife Milly, at Evergreen cemetery. During both ceremonies, Si would have been proud of the love that the family showed and knowing that his grandson gave the parting words of love.

Donations can be made to Alexian Brothers Hospice, 901 Martha St. Elk Grove Village, IL 60007.
