Sister Bernardine A. Kauffmann

Sister Bernardine A. Kauffmann, 87 passed away December 2, 2021 in Barrington.  She was born June 10, 1934 in Chicago to Fred and Harriet Kauffmann.

Sister Bernardine attended Loyola University in Chicago where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.   She also attended Regina Mundi University in Rome and received a Master’s Degree in Theology; attended the University of Minnesota and received an administrator’s license. Sister Bernardine taught disabled children; became Delegation Superior for Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, and later as Provincial Superior. She worked as an administrator at St. Bernard’s Hospital in Milbank, South Dakota.  Later she was also administrator of Divine Providence Community House in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota.  Sister Bernardine received the Pro Fidelitate et Virtute award in 1997 by the Institute on Religious Life.. She was admitted to Queen of Peace Retirement Center in 2005.

Sister Bernardine is survived by her nephews, Ed Niemiec and Joe Kauffmann; and many dear friends and fellow Sisters at Daughters of St. Mary of Providence.  She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Frank and Walter Kauffmann, and Harriet Niemiec.

Visitation will begin at 2pm until the prayer service at 7pm Sunday, December 5 at Queen of Peace Chapel at Mount Saint Joseph, 24955 N. Highway 12, Lake Zurich.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am, Monday, December 6 at The Chapel at Mount St. Joseph followed by burial in the Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.
