Sister Margaret Mary Schissler

Sr. Margaret Mary Schissler, 67, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2021, at her home.

She was born June 13, 1954 in Evergreen Park, Illinois, the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret Schissler.  Spending the first part of her life in Chicago, she graduated from Chicago State University with a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.  She then entered the Congregation of the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence (DSMP) on September 8, 1977 and professed her Vows on August 15, 1980.

Also known as “Sr. M & M”, Sr. Margaret Mary touched the lives of many people in her 41 years of Religious Life.  She served persons with intellectual disabilities, seniors, children and young people as well as their families.  She was an advocate and support for persons in need and assisted them and their families with respect, dignity and love.

Sr. Margaret Mary loved her family and her Religious Sisters.  She was a vibrant and committed religious woman and will be greatly missed.  Sister was often asked to write a poem to celebrate the lives of her Sisters.  Her last and favorite line was always, “It’s great to be a DSMP!!"

Sr. Margaret Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Margaret (Foote) Schissler and her sister, Mary Agnes.  Survivors include her brother, Joseph Schissler.

A visitation will be held on Monday, January 24, from 3pm until 7pm at Mount St. Joseph, 24955 N U.S. Hwy 12, Lake Zurich. Visitation will continue Tuesday, January 25, at 9:30am until the time of mass at 10:30am at Mount St. Joseph. Burial will follow at the Mount St. Joseph Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence, 4200 N. Austin Avenue, Chicago,  Illinois  60634  Attn:  Sr. Rita Butler to be used for the mission entrusted to the Congregation.
