Sister Martha Scheessele

Sr. Martha Scheessele DSMP,  formerly of Spencer County, Indiana, passed away peacefully on November 24, 2021 at Queen of Peace Retirement Center, Lake Zurich, Illinois.

Prior to entering the convent, Sr. Martha was a Registered Nurse earned her Nursing Degree from St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana. She entered the Congregation of the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence in December of 1953.  In her 68 years of Religious Life, Sister Martha served the developmentally disabled persons in Chicago, Illinois, Northville, Michigan, Elverson, Pennsylvania, Rosemont, Pennsylvania, and the hospital and nursing home in Milbank, South Dakota.

Sr. Martha is preceded in death by her parents, William Scheessele and Mary Forler; brothers Wilfred, Fredrick, Albert, Basil and Paul; sisters, Teresa, Cecilia Coudret, and Margaret (Sr. Louise, D.C.).

A visitation will be held Monday, November 29 beginning at 2 p.m until the time of prayers at 7 p.m. at Queen of Peace Retirement Center in Lake Zurich, Illinois. The funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, November 30 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel at Mount St. Joseph in Lake Zurich, Illinois with the interment at Mount St. Joseph cemetery to follow.
