Skip Moore

Skip Moore, 63, of Cary, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday morning, December 29, 2024. Born Harry Curtis Moore, Jr. on November 11, 1961, in Fairmont, West Virginia, Skip was the only child of Harry and Helen Moore.

Skip earned a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kansas and a master’s degree in Systems Engineering from Wichita State. He married Cheryl Pfeifer, on July 2, 1983, and they shared more than 40 years together.

A true Renaissance man, Skip had a brilliant mind and a creative spirit that made him unforgettable. He was an accomplished engineer at Motorola for many years but found his true calling as a tutor. A teacher at heart, tutoring brought him immense joy, especially those moments when the “lightbulb” went on for his students. He thrived on connection and was known for his quick wit, sharp intellect, and ability to “inspect BS” with remarkable precision.

Skip’s passions were as diverse as his talents. He was a devoted foodie who loved exploring new flavors and dishes, a master of stained glass, a gifted photographer, and simply a phenomenal artist who combined an artistic eye with scientific precision. He had a deep love for fantasy literature, spending hours debating the works of Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, and was a lifelong fan of Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars.

Skip’s personality was as bold as his Celtic kilt collection, which he proudly wore on special occasions (and some not-so-special ones, just because).

One of Skip’s greatest joys was Disney. He and Cheryl shared magical trips to Disney World, but nothing compared to seeing the magic through the eyes of his granddaughters, Zelda and Helena. As “Poppi,” he was adored by them, and his love for his family was the heart of everything he did.

Survivors include his wife, Cheryl; his children, Athena (Nick) Deck of Winona Lake, IN, and Aaron (Amanda) Moore of Bonaire, GA; his granddaughters, Zelda and Helena Moore; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends.

A visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at 7:30 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.

Skip was one-of-a-kind—a man of genius, creativity, and heart who left the world a little brighter.
