Sophie K. Dubs was born February 28, 1914 in Chicago, the daughter of David and Sophie Kraus; she died Saturday, November 3, 2012 at home surrounded by family and friends.
Sophie married Alexander Dubs, Jr. on June 24, 1939 in Chicago. They moved to Arlington Heights in 1953 and after her husband's death in 2004, she moved to Crystal Lake. Shortly after moving to Crystal Lake, she joined Immanuel Lutheran Church where she quickly made many new and wonderful friends.
Sophie worked for many years at The Bank & Trust Company of Arlington Heights. She also volunteered at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Sophie was an avid gardener and exceptional homemaker.
She was devoted to her family and friends. Always quick to lend a helping hand, she was an inspiration to her five grandsons and many great grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Kevin) O'Brien and Janet (George) Soderberg; grandsons, Kevin O'Brien Jr., Michael (Shelli) Chinlund, Gregory (Colleen) Chinlund, and Christopher (Ellen) O'Brien; 20 great grandchildren; brother Henry; and many nieces and nephews.
Sophie was preceded in death by her husband Alexander; brother David; sisters, Josephine Belling and Emelie Fritz-Howell; and grandson, Sean O'Brien.
The memorial visitation & service will be held on Wednesday, November 7 beginning at 2pm with a 3pm service at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 178 McHenry Ave, Crystal Lake. Interment is private.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sophie's name to Immanuel Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
