Sister Gertrude Labarbera, 84

Born April 14, 1932 to Salvatore La Barbera and Cristenzia Piscitello in Fredonia, NY. She passed away August 7, 2016.

Sister Gertrude graduated from Loyola University in 1970 with a Bachelors in Education. She entered the Daughters of St. Mary of Providence in May, 1953. She served in Elverson, PA from 1957-1962 as Housemother; Don Guanella School from 1962-1970 as teacher; St. Rose Center in Chicago from 1970-1971 as Principal of School Program; St. Mary of Providence, Chicago from 1971-1975 as Director of Residential Services and Formator for Junior Sisters; Our Lady of Providence Center in Northville, MI from 1975-1976 as Administrator; Rome, Italy from 1976-1982 on the General Council; St. Mary of Providence, Chicago as Delegation Superior from 1982-1992; Don Guanella Center in Chelsea, MA from 1992-1994 as Administrator; Divine Providence Village in Springfield, PA as Administrator and Superior from 1994-2002; St. Mary of Providence Retreat Center in Elverson, PA as Retreat Coordinator from 2002-2004; Mt. St. Joseph as Superior from 2004-2012; St. Mary of Providence Retreat Center in Elverson, PA as Superior from 2012-2016. In July, 2016 she went to Queen of Peace Retirement Center in Lake Zurich, IL. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11am, Wednesday, August 10 at Mt. St. Joseph Chapel, 24955 U.S. Hwy 12, Lake Zurich, IL. Burial will follow.
