Stephen "Steve" Furuta

Steve Furuta passed away on October 22, 2021 after a 7 year battle with cancer.

He was born in a Japanese Internment Camp in Colorado in 1943. After being released from the Amache Camp, his family moved back to California where he was educated at Los Angeles High School, Arizona State University and University of California. While attending school, he started a career with United Airlines in Sales. With skills learned in his 20 years in the airline industry, Steve later founded a golf store in Illinois. The success he and his partner had grew their business to a string of retail golf stores with 9 locations in Illinois and 2 California.

An avid sports fan as well as participant, he was successful playing football, tennis, diving, surfing, kayaking, skiing and fishing. He made each an adventure and gained lifelong friends while enjoying their mutual favorite sport.

He was preceded in death by his parents Pete and Itsuko Furuta. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mary Ann, and his brothers, Peter (Michiko) and John (Vanessa) Furuta, nieces Jennifer and Laurie Furuta, nephews Garrett, Jonathan and Owen Furuta and his friend and brother-in-law Richard Roscoe.

He will be remembered most as a kind and generous friend who was always supportive of them and their families.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be held at 3:15pm Sunday, November 7 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St. (Lake Cook Road), Barrington.  There will be visitation from 1:30pm until the memorial service at 3:15pm. Aloha attire is welcomed!
