Steven Delatorre

Steven Edward Delatorre, 45, of Chicago (formerly of Crystal Lake), passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 3, 2015 in Chicago.

He was born on December 13, 1969 to Frank and Joan Delatorre in Elgin.

Steve enjoyed helping others and his community, which showed through his public service careers throughout the years. He held various positions during his 23 years in the fire and service units such as Firefighter, Paramedic, Lieutenant, Leader of a Hazardous Materials Response Team, Co-Founder of a Fire Investigation Unit, Public Fire Safety Education Officer, Community Relations Director, and Department Media Spokesperson. He worked at numerous departments throughout the years including Nunda Rural, Cary, Palatine Rural, and Elk Grove Township.

He also had many roles in the 9-1-1 dispatch service, serving as 9-1-1 Communications Operator for CenCom, Northwest Central Dispatch System, and for the towns of Cary, and Crystal Lake as well as the Glenview Police Department.

Steve had a passion for physical fitness. He worked as a personal fitness trainer and was very health conscious. He enjoyed running and cooking healthy meals.

Many friends and family loved him. He had a great sense of humor and will be remembered for all of his clever “play on words”. In his spare time he loved to cheer on the Cubs, cook, and read books. He loved living in Chicago and all it had to offer.

He was the son of the late Frank and Joan Delatorre; brother to Laura (Richard) Windgassen; uncle of Megan (fiancé Trevor Morris) Windgassen and James Windgassen; and nephew and cousin to many.

Visitation will be held from 12-5p.m., Saturday, June 13 at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake, IL 60014.

Visitation will continue from 10a.m. until the time of service at 11a.m., Sunday June, 14 at the funeral home.

Burial will be held at Windridge Memorial Park Cemetery in Cary following the service.
