SOLVANG"", Calif. – Sue Hanke,56, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 19,2011, at the Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, Calif. She was surrounded by her husband, three children and the wonderful doctors, nurses and social workers at the hospital during her last hours. She had been valiantly fighting lung cancer, but ultimately succumbed to related complications.
Sue was born Feb. 9,1955, in Marinette, Wis., to Connie Peters (Hansen) of Crystal Lake, and Tom Peters (deceased). In 1967,"" her family moved to Crystal Lake where she spent most of her life. She was a varsity gymnast and cheerleader at Crystal Lake High School and a finalist in the Miss Crystal Lake beauty pageant in 1974. She married William """"Bill"""" Hanke in 1977 and moved to Solvang in 2003.
Sue's children include a daughter"", Tonie Hanke of New Port Richey, Fla.; and two sons, Will and Bill Hanke of Solvang. She was a sister to Debbie Ritter of Germantown, Wis.; Lynn Ritter of Crystal Lake, Tom Peters (deceased), Tony Peters of Highlands Ranch, Colo., and Katie Totheroh of Montgomery.
Local funeral services will be at noon Thursday, Dec. 22, at Loper Funeral Chapel in Solvang. Additional services will be planned in Crystal Lake in January.
