Susan L. Retz, 67, of Crystal Lake, passed away on April 4th, at JourneyCare in Barrington.

Born on October 23, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, she is preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and James Skjoldager of Chicago; brothers, Jack and Larry; sister Jamie; and her husband Michael J. Retz whom she married on February 20, 1971, at Redeemer Episcopal Church in Elgin, Illinois.

Sue graduated from Conant High School in Hoffman Estates. She worked for Prestress Engineering in Crystal Lake for over 20 years.

Sue was a long time member of St. Mary Episcopal Church in Crystal Lake. She was treasurer for many years, as well as a counter for Sunday collections. She found strength, love, and friendship at St. Mary’s.

Sue is survived by her children, Eric (Katherine) Retz of Crystal Lake, and Kelly (Seamus) Rees of Fulton, MO; two grandsons, Jacob Retz and Henry Rees; siblings Dawn (Dennis) Vollmer, Joyce Helms, and Michael Skjoldager; mother-in-law, Katherine Retz; sister-in-law, Kathleen (James) Findlay; brother-in-law, William A. (Julia) Retz; and many nieces, nephews and extraordinary friends.

Visitation will be Friday, April 10th, from 4-7pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rte 176), Crystal Lake. The Episcopal Liturgy of the Resurrection will be at 10:30am Saturday, April 11th at St. Mary Episcopal Church, 210 McHenry Avenue, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Sue’s name can be made out to St. Mary’s Church.
