Teresa Suzanne Ponio (nee Kerns), 56, of Island Lake, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, January 26, 2015. She was born April 21, 1958 to Richard and Frances Kerns (nee Hoeppner) in Rockford, IL.
On November 16, 1985 she married John W. Ponio in Hampshire, IL. Together they raised their three sons in the Village of Island Lake. Teresa was a stay at home mom and home schooled the boys through high school. She had two degrees of her own; an Associate of Science/Horticulture with emphasis on Floral Shop Management and an Associate of Theology degree with an emphasis on Leadership Training.
Teresa was a member of Lakes Region Watercolor Guild and a past Chair of their Newsletter. She was a member of Municipal Clerks of Illinois and the current Clerk for the Village of Island Lake. She also served for 3 years as a stateside Christian missionary in Idaho, Virginia, and Oklahoma.
Survivors include her husband, John; sons, Luke, Matt, and John; brother, Michael (Kathy) Kerns of Burnsville, MN; sisters, Jeanette (David) Larson of New Auburn, WI, Patricia (Richard) Ghyselinck of Exeland, WI, Connie (Dean) Hinnerichs of St. Paul, MN; and nieces and nephews, Andrea (Cory) Probasco, Michelle (Jeff) Nevenhoven, Martin (Samara) Gromer, Eric (Wendy) Larson, Ryan Kerns, Nichole (Steve) Mathiason, Evan (Bethany) Kerns, Chad (Cindy) Larson, Adam Gromer, Nicholas Hinnerichs, Lisa (Kevin) Colbert, and Nathan (Elizabeth) Kerns.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Kerns and Frances Kerns Dewey and nephews, Shawn Gromer and Joshua Ghyselinck.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 1st, from 1-8pm and continue on Monday, February 2nd, from 10am until the service at 1pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (IL Rt. 176), Crystal Lake.
