Terry D. Asbury, 77, of Crystal Lake, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, February 28, 2016.
He was born August 19, 1938 in Taylorville, IL, the son of Raymond and Imogene (Wood) Asbury. Terry graduated from Belvidere High School in 1956. He was a catcher on the baseball team which was the first team from B.H.S. to ever make it to Peoria for the eight team finals. In 2010 he was inducted into the Belvidere High School Football Hall of Fame. Terry received a B.A. in 1961 from Northwestern University where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was a 20 year employee of AON Corporation and more recently a self-employed insurance agent. Terry loved the game of golf and always enjoyed playing with family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Martha (Cutcliff), formerly of Amory, MS, he is survived by his first wife, Susan Asbury; and their children, Laurie (Stuart), Dr. Jeffrey Asbury and Keith Asbury; sisters, Sue (John) Ashley and Debra Jo (Ed) Thornton; and brother, Robert S. “Skip” (Nan) Barnes; his extended family in Mississippi and a host of wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Andrew Asbury, in 1941; his mother, Imogene Barnes; and his step-father of 67 years, Glen W. Barnes.
Terry’s attitude concerning his illness was exceptional. He had requested no fanfare upon his passing. A family gathering will be held at a later date.
