Terry Cantwell of Idabel, Oklahoma passed away on July 29th, 2015.
Terry was born on February 18, 1934 to Fred and Thelma Cantwell in
McAlester, Oklahoma. He grew up in Pratt, Kansas where he was an honor student and athlete in all sports, though always liked football best. He attended Oklahoma State University on a football scholarship. After graduation he served in the United States Army at Fort Holabird, Baltimore, Maryland; and Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas. In 1956 he and Lila Hayes were married in the Idabel, Oklahoma Methodist Church. After the Army, Terry began a career in business finance with International Harvester Corporation that lasted 30 years, leading them from Texas to California, to Kansas, to Illinois. Upon retirement from International Harvester, he and his brother-in-law, Earl Hayes, co-owned and operated Thomason Lumber Company, Broken Bow, Oklahoma, where he worked for another 10 years. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling, golf, and singing in the church choir, as he had at all the churches his family attended.
Terry is survived by his wife Lila; son, Scott Cantwell and daughter-in-law Sheila; daughter, Beth and son-in-law Peter Olsen; brother, Don Cantwell; and grandson Will Olsen, with whom he shared a very special bond.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bob Cantwell.
Services for Terry will be held privately.
A memorial fund has been established in his name, designate Methodist Children’s Home in memory of Terry Cantwell: Circle of Care, 1501 NW 24th Street #214, Oklahoma City, OK 73106.
