Terry Shimp

June 29, 1957 — March 16, 2012

Terence “Terry” J. Shimp, 54, of Crystal Lake was born June 29, 1957 in Aurora, Illinois and passed away unexpectedly March 15, 2012 in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Terry always listened first and spoke second. In a world where many people believe listening means waiting for their turn to talk, Terry always made a point to show he legitimately understood and cared about what others had to say. Whether he was conversing with his wife, children, family, friends, co-workers, customers, or new acquaintances he always heard their story first and only then would he give his opinion. The art of listening is a concept many of us struggle with, but Terry had mastered. Generosity was another characteristic that made Terry such an exceptional man. Given the remarkable nature of his kindness, it is very difficult to describe in words. If you ask anyone close to him though, they will attest to the fact that he would give anything he had to provide love, food, shelter, and thoughtful advice to anyone he cared for.

Terry (Dad) was our Hero. He was the best Husband, Father, Brother, Uncle and Friend any one could have. He will always be missed but never forgotten. Terry will continue to live in the hearts and minds of all those he touched throughout his remarkable life.

He was the beloved husband for over 26 years to Tammy (nee Treadway), loving father of John (Ingrid Pinto) Volenec, Peter Shimp, and Jacqueline Shimp, dear brother of Donald (Sandra), Tim, Russell, and Jody(Keri) Shimp, and Susanne (Shane) Sauer. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Anne “Nancy” Shimp, and brother Mark Shimp.

Visitation will be 3-9pm Friday March 23, 2012 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake. Service s and interment are private.
