Crystal Lake, Illinois,THELMA HUMMEL Thelma Hummel, 70 a Crystal Lake resident for over 39 years, entered eternal life on March 25, 2010 at home, surrounded by her family. She was born November 10 1939 to Robert and Dorothy (Parsons) Westphal in Everett, Massachusetts. On May 16, 1959, she was united in marriage to Franklyn A. Hummel, Sr. in Palatine, IL. During her working career, she was a secretary and case worker and was employed in the offices of both Congressman Phil Crane and IL Senator Jack Shaeffer. She was a member of First Congregational Church in Crystal Lake. Her survivors include her beloved husband, Franklyn Hummel, Sr.; her loving children, Franklyn A. (M. Theresa) Hummel, Jr., Bryan A. (Debi) Hummel, Lauryn L. (Steven) Mitchell, and Wayde A. (Shelly) Hummel; her cherished grandchildren, Adam, Alexandyr, Aaryn, Ryan (fiancé Kate Ditkowski), Blake, Nathan, Joshua, Lucas, Katy, and Bridget; her precious great grandsons Carter and Joey; her dear siblings, Winifred Grant, Albert (Judy) Westphal, and Robert (Pam) Westphal Jr.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, Robert and Dorothy Westphal and a brother, Bruce Westphal. The visitation will be held from 3-8pm on Sunday, March 28, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E Terra Cotta Ave (Rt 176), Crystal Lake with a funeral service at 6:30pm. Reverend Arn Schaper will officiate. Interment will be private.
