Thomas Hopman

Thomas Hopman, 66, of Ft. Myers, FL, formerly of Crystal Lake, IL passed away peacefully Monday, October 1st in Ft. Myers surrounded by his loving wife and son.

He was born December 4, 1951 in Chicago, IL to James and Beatrice (nee O’Hara) Hopman. He married Susan Conway on August 13, 1977.

He graduated from Quigley Preparatory Seminary South in Chicago in 1969, and attended Northern Illinois University and University of Illinois.  He was active as a Scoutmaster for Troop 158 in Crystal Lake for 5 years. Additionally, he was an Engineer and proud member of the IUOE Local 399 where he retired in February 2017.

Tom was a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He treasured time spent with family and friends above all else. He found happiness in fishing, biking, reading and spending time on the beach. He was a skilled handyman, a talent he passed on to his sons, and will carry on through his grandchildren.  He had a wonderful sense of humor and brilliant mind.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Susan; his son, Thomas (Maureen); and his three grandchildren, Declan, Greenlee, and Owen. In addition, he is survived by his 5 siblings, James (Patricia), Margaret (Patrick) Burke, Catherine (William) Kushner, Mary (Steven) Rowe, and Michael (Sherri). Tom was a fond uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his son, Sean; his parents, James and Beatrice; and his father- and mother-in-law, Patrick and Phyllis Conway.

A memorial visitation will be held from 9:30am until time of prayers at 10:30am, Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake. A funeral Mass will follow at 11am at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake.
