Thomas C. Krepel, 77, of Huntley, formerly of Crystal Lake, passed away on his 77th birthday, February 3, 2025. Born in Elgin on February 3, 1948, to George Henry and Julitta Anna (Bolanos) Krepel, Tom lived a life filled with love, laughter, and quiet strength.
Tom was a proud Marine Corps veteran, a man of few words, but a heart full of devotion. He showed his love through action – always there, always present. As an avid “girl dad” he spent countless hours on the sidelines not just cheering for his daughters, but coaching them, guiding them, and supporting them in everything they did, especially soccer. He loved spending time with family and friends whether it was square dancing, playing a game of pinochle, or watching a movie. He was known for “Tom’s Tots” and making the best buttered popcorn. His love for the outdoors led to many camping trips, hours of birdwatching, and caring for his garden. A dog lover at heart, especially when it came to his grandpups, he could always be found with a dog treat in his pocket. Above all, Tom adored his grandkids—they were his greatest pride and nothing made him happier. Tom’s legacy is in the quiet moments, the small but significant ways he touched the lives of those around him.
Tom is survived by his loving daughters, Erin (Derek), Meghan (Kyle), and Kelly (Tyler); his grandchildren, Brooklyn, Emerson, Hayden, Jonathan, and Cameron; his former spouse, Kathy; and his siblings, George (Laura), Jim (Windy), Henry (Beate), Dorothy (Mike), Raymond, Cathy, and Sally. He also leaves behind a large and loving extended family of cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Julitta, and siblings, Steve, Lee, Dave, and Susan.
A memorial visitation will be held Friday, February 7, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Davenport Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. Additional visitation will be Saturday, February 8, from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 10:00 a.m., followed by burial at Windridge Memorial Park in Cary.
