Thomas Madding

August 13, 1959 — July 4, 2013

Thomas “Tom” Madding
Of Barrington

The memorial service For Thomas “Tom” Madding will be held at 2 pm, Friday, July 12, followed by a memorial visitation until 9 pm at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 149 W. Main St (Lake-Cook Rd), Barrington. Interment will be private.

Born August 13, 1959 in Lake Forest, IL, passed away July 4 in Chicago, surrounded by his loving family.

Tom had a larger than life personality. He loved his family, his friends, his pets, John Wayne, and sports with an emphasis on football and especially the Chicago Bears, but most of all, he loved life.

He had a gregarious disposition with a large pinch of good natured sarcasm thrown in and he could tell a story better than anyone. He could make even the most disagreeable person laugh out loud and make the shyest person in the room feel comfortable.

Tom grew up in Barrington, IL. His parents, Bob and Virginia, raised Tom and his sister, Margaret Jane, in a fun and loving household where sports were always a part of the mix. Tom idolized his dad and dearly loved his mom. He had a special relationship with his sister and when they got together tears of laughter were always involved.

Tom had many friends growing up and is still close with most of them. Their infamous stories are still being told today but most are better left off the printed page.

He went to college at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, where he met and married his wife, Suzy. He ended up back where he started, in Barrington where he and Suzy raised their 3 kids; Bobby, Caroline, and Kierstyn. He spent most of his career in the publishing industry.

He loved his wife and kids fiercely and unconditionally. With his kids, he was their coach, their cheerleader, their teacher, and so much more. He saved his most tender side for them and they knew it.

He was a much loved man.

Tom is survived by his wife of 29 years, Suzy; children, Caroline, Bobby, and Kierstyn; mother, Virginia Madding; sister, Margaret (Andrew) Rockwood; niece, Samantha (Mike) Smigielski; nephew, Andrew (Elizabeth) Rockwood; and sister-in-law, Julie Cehula.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Madding.
